Hanging out at home while losing Ola to yet another birthday party. The kid has a busier social life than the two of us put together. But then again, that wouldn't be too hard...

We still haven't had a chance to sort through the Barcelona pics but promise they'll be up here asap. Meanwhile, here's to a happy, happy weekend. We've got ourselves a long one here. I'm guessing the next few days will be spent drinking beer and enjoying this glorious Indian Summer we've been experiencing as of late. (Big shout out to Mother Nature.) Here's hoping this late burst of warm temps lasts well up until Nonni arrives on Sunday. And beyond.

Oktoberfest.

Another year, another O-Fest. This year brings the tally up to three. Our brother-in-law Kim asked us the other day, "Sooooo, will you there for one more Oktoberfest, or two?", trying to determine whether he could sneak another one in before we head home for good. For the record, we should be hanging around for one final hurrah next year. Better start saving your pennies. Now.

So unless crowds are your thing, the first Saturday is probably not the best time to attend the old Wies'n. (Refer to photo #3). We only managed a couple of rides, a bratwurst and some gingerbread hearts before we hightailed it out of there and headed home. Not before we popped into our local to enjoy a few quiet beers in the shade.

Colour coordinating clothes with toys. This little guy was snapped up for one (ONE!) measly euro on Ebay a few weeks ago. Dave's dad upon seeing a large cardboard package arrive at our door: "Good to see some things never change around here!"

We're off to Oktoberfest today and tomorrow the Fields part seas for Sydney. I know for sure there will be tears...

School.

The Big Day has come and gone. Surprisingly, we all made it through without the shedding of a single, solitary tear. Not one. We're just too damn proud of this kid. And the most exciting thing about school so far? Meeting another boy with the same name AND the same (Star Wars. Naturally) backpack. It's very, very early days, but I have a feeling he's gonna love this gig called school. 

That decorated, cardboard cone up there - Schultüte - is given to children by their parents on their first day of school. Full of treats, toys, school supplies etc, they're carried around all day and opened upon returning home. You can buy them or do what we did and whip it up yourselves. 

Man, I love this German tradition.

Rothenburg ob der Tauber.

The final stop on our Bavarian tour. Over 1000 years old with quite a colourful history - it once held a special significance for Nazi ideologists as it was seen as the quintessential German 'Home Town'. More recently, this beautiful town has been used in a number of movies. Including Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and the last 2 Harry Potter films. Stick that in your pipe and smoke it Nell!

Enough with the German towns already. Bring on Barcelona...
