Inspired by a rare bout of good weather we hired a car for the Easter weekend and headed north. It was a toss-up between Nuremberg (Nürnberg) and Lake Constance (Bodensee) but the former, located 170 km north of Munich, is where we chose to spend our Good Friday. The city centre was levelled by Allied bombers towards the end of the WWII and then painstainkingly rebuilt, using the original stone collected from the rubble. After WWII, the city was chosen as the site of the War Crimes Tribunal, now known as the Nuremberg Trials. And while we're on the subject of famous facts about Nuremberg, it was here that the Nazis held their fanatical rallies, the boycott of Jewish businesses began and the infamous Nuremberg Laws (outlawing Jewish citizenship) were enacted. It is also home to the largest Christmas market in Germany which we have yet to visit but is definitely on the cards for this year.
Dave, Oli, Elmer and I were in the mood for some open-air exploration. We traipsed around the picturesque, old part of town, took a myriad of photos, tasted the local speciality - the Nürnberger Rostbratwurst - and washed them down with a beer or three. Apparently there is an ongoing fued over whether these sausages are better than their Regensberg counterparts, which we also had the pleasure of tasting some mere months ago. Those Germans take this sausage business seriously.
It's days like this where we realise how lucky we are to be here and to be sharing this experience with Oli & Elke. The perfect start to the long weekend. Happy Easter!

We love Elmer over here too. But Elke looks WAY cooler in her patchwork than Elmer ever did. That is a ridiculously adorable outfit. Love your tee too. Kellie xx
The kid is rocking patchwork like never before. She's taken it to a whole new level and it's freakin cute. Look how grown up Oli looks too.
Happy Easter to you and yours Bianca, enjoy the sunshine xx
We be big Elmer fans too, from way back (as I'm sure you are). LOVE Elke's rad outfit. She's a cool cat - and looks so grown up BOOM! all of a sudden. Love these photos. Love Ollie hanging on the stairs, he's one cool little almost six year old.
PS - are you four being paid by German Tourism? You're making it look pretty darn awesome.
