Teehaus.

We discovered this little gem of a place while spending our first few weeks in Munich living in the hotel. A sweet little teahouse serving organic and fair-trade teas from all over the world. The menu changes daily and consists of just 3 vegan/vegetarian dishes. Which is perfect for the decidophobia sufferers amongst us. This place is such a rarity in a city of meat loving Bavarians. And the best part? Such a healthy lunch means no qualms when it comes to indulging in one of the tasty homemade, gluten free cakes on offer. Lecker schmecker.

We discovered an old-fashioned toy shop on the weekend choc-a-bloc of the most amazing wooden toys ever seen. They had an amazing art & craft section where I found this eco wool, handspun here in Germany. I have plans to turn these into scarves, one for each chicken. And yes I do realise it's the middle of summer here. But this in Munich. Winter is but a sniffle away.

A bit of Blighty.

A 4 day whirlwind trip to visit Chiara in London before she bids it farewell after 2 1/2 years and hightails it to Sydney (well, not before a bit of R & R Munich-style).

We spent Saturday at Schliersee, a natural lake in the Bavarian Alps, about 45 minutes from Munich and not too far from the Austrian border. There were inflatable things for the kids, a couple of diving boards, a floating biergarten as well as another biergarten complete with a giant TV outside in anticipation for the big game! Plus the water was ridiculously clean. So clean in fact that 80% of Munich's drinking water comes from here. MunichRe has approx 50 appartments here which all employees can use free of charge so a return visit is definitely on the cards. We could have stayed all day but had already organised to watch the Germany v Argentina game with the neighbours. We returned home to stadium style seating, a TV set up on the lawn along with a couple of BBQs and at least 60 people all geared uo to cheer on Germany. And beer of course. Lots of beer.
