St Martinsfest.

Celebrated in Germany since the 16th Century. At twilight on Nov 11th children gather with their parents and walk through the streets with paper lanterns and sing songs about St. Martin. Oliver made his owl lantern in kindy and practised songs in both German and English in preparation for the walk. Just a bit of background info: St Martin was a Roman soldier who supposedly shared his cloak with a beggar during a snowstorm so it was symbolic for the kids and their parents to share bread and warm, spiced punch (which tastes like gluhwein, sans alcohol) after the walk.
